One Day MAYbe… #SOL21

Every Tuesday at Two Writing Teachers Blog teacher writers share a blog post and a slice of their life. We comment on at least 3 others after we post our own. I do this every Llama Tuesday and the entire month of March.

Yesterday was the first day of May with my students. For more years than I can count my tradition is to give the sentence stem: One day MAYbe…as the writing assignment. It does not matter what grade level I am working with that year. It is universal and always applies.

My students wrote with this prompt and we discussed if they would travel somewhere or what they wanted to be when they grew up. I had answers like becoming a doctor, a princess, a witch , becoming a Pinocchio carver, and going to DisneyWorld.

Teaching online and in person at the same time makes me feel inadequate some days. There is magic that is lost between the two. I am trying to bridge it. My students come to school til the middle of next month so I will keep trying.

How would you finish the sentence stem?

One day MAYbe…

I would love to hear in the comments.

  1. What a sweet prompt, and a great idea for your slice of life post today. Looking around my setting right now, this is all I’ve got for the prompt: One day maybe I will figure out how to live my life without having so many out-of-control piles of papers and stuff invading my space!

  2. Tammy, I do like your prompt and your reflecting on what you need to do to spark joy. I have not heard of a hybrid classroom where you see the children in the middle of the month. This sounds challenging. Best of luck.

  3. One day MAYbe, I’ll jump out of bed at the first alarm….instead of the 10th, to go to work. Thanks for sharing. We are writing some poetry in 2nd grade and this would be a fun repeating line for them. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  4. One day MAYbe… I’ll find the perfect balance between being myself, and being the person my family needs me to be. One day MAYbe… I’ll manage to raise my boys into good young men, and they’ll bring home good young women, and I will [of course] be the perfect mother-in-law. One day MAYbe… I’ll be in the right place, at the right time, with the right resources, to help the right person, to change the world. MAYbe… One day I’ll look back on my life, and be able to love what I see instead of focusing on all the things I regret.
