Dinner Out #SOLC Day 2

Last night my husband met me at school and we drove the 15 minutes to a local supper club that is known for its prime rib. I had been there many times before but it was the first time for my hubby.

There is a cheese spread that is brought to the table with crackers and bread. There are these little flatbreads with black sesame seeds that I love. I had salad with garlic dressing. My date had a wedge salad with blue cheese and bacon that I stole a bite of that was amazing.

The dinner of prime rib and brisket was delicious. It wasn’t quite as good as I remembered but still nice.

The conversation flowed and it was nice to have a dinner out. In a past life, I used to come to this restaurant for birthdays and Mother’s day and general celebrations. I think it has been over 5 years since I was there last.

I am looking forward to a low key day. We had a lockdown for over 2 hours Friday afternoon at school which was a little stressful.

What are some of your favorite places to eat? Are there places you always go for celebrations?

  1. I love the way that meals and restaurants become part of the fabric of our lives and memories. Sounds like you might have other posts hidden in the one you just wrote – about a mother’s day or another celebration. Looking forward to hearing more.

  2. One of our favorite local restaurants brings a basket of little flatbreads with sesame and poppy seeds. When I read that part, I immediately thought of our cozy little restaurant that we sometimes spend Fridays at. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a relaxing weekend.

  3. Looks like a wonderful place Tammy. We have a restaurant in Duras, Hostellerie des Ducs, it’s called. It is on the road between Toulouse and our old farmhouse in the Dordogne, so we like to stop there, 2 or 3 times a year. It is traditional French food from the South West: duck, foie gras, goat cheese, walnuts, honey, fish, steak, lamb, liver, seasonal fruit and vegetables. And good wine produced in Duras and the surrounding Bordelais.
    Have a very pleasant weekend.

  4. There used to be a place here in our little town with THE BEST PRIME RIB EVER. The owner retired and took his recipe/method with him, and I’ve never had prime rib that good since. Mom and I used to go together. I would treat her on her birthday and she would treat me on my birthday. For Mother’s Day, we would each get the same thing and pay for each other.

  5. A two-hour lockdown – Yuck! At least you ended the day on a high note with a nice dinner. My wife and I have a favorite place to go out when we need a night away from the kids. Francesca’s Cucina is a little Italian restaurant located in the middle of our small city (Syracuse), but the back patio is so elegant and beautiful that you forget that you are even in the city. It’s the perfect place to eat on a nice fall, spring, or summer night.

    • You picked up on that detail! Yes, there were many police and kids were stuck in the same classroom for two hours plus. Luckily on a Friday there was only a slight delay in getting everyone home. Having special places make the food even more enjoyable I think.

  6. Oh Tammy! You’ve made my mouth water πŸ˜‹ We have a few special places depending on what we fancy, a steak house, a bbq place and the local pub! All great places it just depends on our mood… 😊

  7. I was just discussing our favorite places to eat with my husband. We have a friend in town this weekend. I prefer a place that has a good beverage menu as well. If you’re ever in DC, my favorites include The Hamilton and Pearl Dive (has an affiliated bar and speakeasy!) Happy Weekend!

  8. I have never been to a supper club. I have always wanted to go. It seems like such a nostalgic thing to do. Maybe someday. The food sounds delicious. I hope you enjoyed your lazy day.

  9. I have not heard of a supper club! Glad you were able to go back to a place that you used to frequent often. You deserve it -after a lock down at school. My husband and I have only been married for a year and a half – we don’t have any favorites yet. I guess we are still exploring – our go to restaurant is still to come…

  10. We had a lock down drill on Friday. Thankfully, only a drill. Your evening put a beautiful punctuation mark on the end of your day! I love restaurants with fireplaces!

  11. Like others, this reminds me the Wisconsin supper club scene where I used to bartend way back in the day! However, it’s also reminds me of a place close by where we live as well. Relish tray, garlic toast, then the meal, usually exceptional! πŸ™‚ Thanks for great slice!
